Couples Intensives
I want you to know
It doesn’t have to stay like this.
You want things to change, but don’t know where to start. You may have thought about couples therapy, but can’t seem to make schedules align between each of your work schedules, your babysitter’s availability, and the counselor’s openings. A couples intensive can serve to jumpstart the journey toward connection and mutual understanding in your relationship.
In our time together, we will explore patterns of communication around emotionally-charged topics and create a safe space to have hard conversations. Through directive, transparent, and honest observation, I will help bridge the communication gap between you and your partner. My aim is not only to promote insight, but to create opportunities for experiential learning about yourself and each other.
Intensives are intentional.
Therapy intensives are increasing in popularity - and for good reason. Learn more about couples intensives and what they have to offer below.
-
A couples intensive is a focused, short-term therapeutic experience designed to address specific emotional, psychological, or relational challenges in a short period of time - either in one day or over the course of a weekend. Unlike traditional weekly therapy sessions, intensives offer extended sessions for deeper, more immersive work.
-
The main difference between couples therapy and a couple’s intensive is structure and format. Traditional therapy appointments tend to be scheduled on a regular, consistent basis such as weekly or every-other week. A couples intensive is a stand-alone appointment, usually lasting one day or over the course of the weekend.
-
Couples intensives are both intense and intentional. They are a great option when both partners are desiring changes in the relationship and are ready to jump in with vulnerability and honesty.
Couples do not need to be perfectly aligned to benefit from a couples intensive.
It is normal and expected for partners to have different capacities for emotional connection, changes in behavior, or even commitment to the relationship. What is important is that both partners desire change, even if each partner has a different idea of what they’d like that to look like.
What we’ll work on
Sample Itinerary
The specific topics and goals for your intensive will be discussed during your pre-intensive interview. Common topics that arise during couple’s intensives include (but certainly are not limited to) examining each of your roles in conflict, finding the exact place you get stuck, unaligned values related to parenting or finances, navigating new ways of dividing household labor, differences in desire around physical intimacy, and exploring readiness for taking the next step such as marriage or moving in together.
Morning Session 9am - 11am
Discussing main concerns and identifying individual roles within reoccurring conflict.
Individual attachment interviews to explore the impact of upbringing and family dynamics on the relationship.
Break for Lunch 11am - 12pm
Give your brain and body time to recharge and connect with your partner.
Afternoon Session 12pm - 2pm
Review cyclical nature of disagreements and identify alternative approaches to communication.
Practice new strategies in taking your partner's perspective and communicating in an honest, yet respectful manner.
One Day or Day One.
You decide.

Included in your Couples Intensive Package:
Consultation Meeting
Your journey toward closer connection begins with a brief video consultation. During this time, you will share your overall concerns and have an opportunity to ask any questions you may have. I will give you my clinical recommendations and explore options for scheduling an intensive or exploring other paths toward healing and growth.
Pre-intensive Interview
Prior to your intensive, I will meet you as a couple for a 60 minute interview. Ideally, this appointment is scheduled 4-6 weeks in advance of your intensive. This appointment can be scheduled in-office or over zoom. We will discuss your current concerns, previous history and hopes for the future. We will work together to prioritize goals for your upcoming intensive.
Workbook
Upon booking your intensive, you will receive a digital copy of my workbook From Conflict to Connection. This resource was created in response to couples feeling stuck, finding difficulty putting what we talk about in session into practice at home. You will be encouraged to complete the activities together prior to your intensive.
Intensive Appointment
Your 4-hour intensive will take place over a single day or split between a 2 hour evening and 2 hour morning session. I offer flexible scheduling options including evenings and weekends that are determined by our collective needs and current availability. If scheduling over a single day, a midway break will be offered. Light refreshments will be available.
3 Follow-up Video Calls
I am a firm believer that change unfolds over time. To promote long-term transformation in your relationship, you will have access to three 20 minute check-in zoom calls.* These video calls may be set up in advance or scheduled with as little as 1 day notice. These calls can be used to celebrate successes, troubleshoot stuck patterns in recent conflict, or explore options for future relationship growth.
Personalized Recommendations
As part of your intensive package, I will compile a list of personalized recommendations provided via email. Resources may include media recommendations, suggested activities or practices, professional referrals, or other recommendations. All recommendations will be based on your specific expressed concerns and my own observations throughout our time together.
Total Investment: $995
Insurance plans generally do not cover intensive programs.
All major credit, debit, and HSA cards are accepted.
*Calls must be used within 90 days of your intensive.
